LOTUS DNA

An installation featuring a MIDI orchestra powered by a custom-made generative instrument that creates music using raw DNA data (nucleic acids sequence).

In it’s inaugural exhibition, the DNA of a Lotus Flower was fed into the system and as the orchestra played, an animation of a lotus flower being created appeared. Currently the project is in the research & development phase for an iteration that utilizes human genome data.

Excerpt from the exhibition statement:

"The fundamental concepts of the auditory elements of this piece were built around my desire to create experimental music utilizing raw DNA data as a framework. In this context I decided that choosing the genome sequence of a lotus flower as the root data would be perfect for a composition of this nature. This would allow me to essentially build a piece of music that would be the musical expression of the creation of a lotus flower."
